New solar facility opens at site of former Rochester, NY landfill

December 6, 2017

This month, a Rochester, NY landfill that has been vacant for 45 years, became home to a new solar energy facility, owned and operated by AES Distributed Energy. The facility, known as “Solar Field,” has more than 7,800 solar panels onsite, which will produce approximately 3 million kilowatt hours of electricity each year for the City of Rochester and will reduce the city’s carbon dioxide emissions by over 2,000 tons. The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority provided financial support for the project.
