In furtherance of Gov. Cuomo’s Green New Deal, the New York State Energy and Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced the execution of two multi-year contracts to study conditions and collect data relative to the conditions in the waters off the coast of New York. The data will support effective and environmentally responsible offshore wind energy development projects – a goal emphasized in Gov. Cuomo’s Green New Deal, which is committed to carbon neutrality. The contracts are to deploy remote sensing equipment that uses pulsed laser light to measure “turbine hub-height wind speed and direction, wave and current measurements, as well as other environmental data” which will be mounted on buoys and for two years in multiple locations.
