Settlement reached in Hopewell Precision Superfund case

July 20, 2019

The EPA and Hopewell Precision, Inc. (“Hopewell”) entered into two consent orders this month, settling the Superfund statute civil lawsuit for $1.2 million. Hopewell is accused of, among other things, dumping hazardous solvent waste on the Hopewell Junction, NY Superfund site, “causing solvents… [to be] released into the environment, …[and leaching] into the groundwater … beyond the [Hopewell] properties, affecting drinking wells and homes in an area extending about a mile-and-a-half from the properties.” The EPA has spent millions since 2003 cleaning up the site.
