Puerto Rico Governor signs renewable energy bill into law
This month, Gov. Rosselló signed the Puerto Rico Energy Public Policy Act into law, committing the island to the goal of 100% renewable energy by 2050, with an “interim target of 40% renewable energy by 2024.” Under the new law, “all scales of renewable energy production, including home solar energy, will count” towards the set goal. Indian Point nuclear power plant sold to decommissioning company
Entergy announced that it will sell the Indian Point nuclear power plant to Holtect International for decommissioning. The sale, which expedites decommissioning of the plant by decades, includes the “transfer of the licenses, spent fuel, decommissioning liabilities, and Nuclear Decommissioning Trusts [valued at $1.85].” Holtec will transfer and store all of Indian Point’s “used nuclear fuel to its dry fuel storage cask systems to be stored at on-site reinforced concrete pads,
NJDEP to join International Zero-Emission Vehicle Alliance
In furtherance of NJ’s ongoing efforts to implement strategies for greenhouse-gas reduction, this month, the NJDEP has joined the International Zero-Emission Vehicle Alliance (“Alliance”). Much like the Multi State Zero Emission Vehicle Action Plan, which NJ already committed to, the Alliance is “focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector by expanding the market for zero-emission vehicles.” The Alliance identified three main, immediate goals:
