Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority cancels $300M exclusive contract with Whitefish Energy to rebuild electrical grid following Hurricane Maria

December 6, 2017

Puerto Rico’s Electric Power Authority canceled its contract with Whitefish Energy amidst public scrutiny, demands from members of Congress for an investigation, and calls from Puerto Rico’s Governor Ricardo Rosselló for immediate cancellation. Montana-based Whitefish Energy, a small, 2-year old company, won the $300 million exclusive contract to rebuilt Puerto Rico’s electrical infrastructure despite “having no experience in large-scale electrical repairs and [] only two full-time employees.” Additionally, the company is reported to have previously employed the son of US Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke; Zinke denies any involvement with Whitefish Energy securing the lucrative contract.
