NJ among six states seeking to hold EPA to power plant smog reduction promises
Following the Trump administration’s December decision to “take no further [imminent] action to control emissions of ground-level ozone from sources in upwind states[,]” NJ AG Grewal joined six other states in filing suit against the EPA. The suit challenges “the federal government’s failure to clamp down on pollution from coal-burning power plants [in upwind states] that contribute to unhealthy air in the Northeast.” The petition seeks to compel the EPA to adhere to a 2016 commitment it made to “to reduce ozone pollution, largely coming from coal-burning power plants in the Midwest and South.”
